Two of my former bandmates formed a new band, The Mercury Dimes, focused more wholly on Appalachian old-time music.
For their first CD they aimed to print using limited colors on uncoated chipboard via Portland’s Stumptown Printers. As a concept they sought a pastiche of a midcentury toy package (the “Junior Dynamite Blaster”).
To emphasize a vintage production feel, I leaned on distressed typefaces, including FF Dirty and Rubberplate by Chester Wadja.
The band enjoyed the results so much that for their second album (this one digital-only) they asked me to make a matching companion to the first.
Digital releases don’t need artwork for the “back” of the album, but we went ahead and made it anyway.
Both are great records which you can listen to via the major streaming services (Apple | Spotify | Amazon).
